ABOUT US

Peu Estates is located outside Modjadjiskloof in the breathtaking valley of Christinasrust, which is along the misty belt which stretches as far as Makgobaskloof. The area enjoys high precipitation levels, hence the higher annual rainfall experienced in the region.

OUR PRODUCTS

Over and above the rich flora the farm is nestled in the blue gum plantations on all the four boundaries, rendering it more attractive and habitable to the honey bees.

Pure Honey

Our apiaries are in a rural setting, generously spaced and spread across the different rich flora found in the region. The colonies enjoy the meandering valley, easy access to water, pollen and nectar. The colour and flavour of our honey varies greatly as it is influenced by the kind of blossoms from which the bees get their nectar.

OUR HONEY

Our honey comes straight from the honey comb, get filtered to remove small bits of particles like beeswax and pollen. Our honey is neither heated, pasteurized nor adulterated. It is cloudy or opaque because it contains extra elements such as bee pollen and bee propolis, which offers additional antioxidant and antibacterial properties.

Why Does Pure Honey Crystalises

Pure honey is super-saturated with very important natural sugars: glucose and fructose. Pure honey has bits of pollen which is a substrate which encourages crystallisation. While the low water content helps in keeping the pure honey from fermenting, on the other hand it allows for easier crystallization. This is a natural process, hence the ratio of glucose to fructose due to the nectar from different flowers, cannot be controlled and this influences the rate at which crystalisation happens.

PURE HONEY

How To Use a Crystalised Pure Honey

Place your crystallised pure honey in a warm water sink/container of about 40°C for about 15 minutes before use. You may have to leave it for longer, depending on hard it has crystallised.

Is My Honey Pure?

There are a number of tests which you can perform to confirm the purity of your honey. We suggest these two very basic and simple basic tests which do not require much from time and efforts:

The Vinegar-Water Test
Prepare an equal mixture of vinegar and water, then add your honey. Should the mixture start to form a foam, it indicates that your honey is impure. Should there be no foam, it means your honey is pure.
Matchstick Test
Dip a matchstick in a honey and light it up. It’ll immediately catch fire – then it is pure. Should it not catch fire, then it is impure.

Macadamia NUTS

Our orchards are well cared for with above average yields.

We have opted for drying our nuts naturally, allowing the nutmeat to gradually detach itself from the shell. Since our nuts are neither roasted nor salted, you have the most naturally nutritious macadamia on your table.
